There are symbolic links or directories which must be necessarily defined in your root HFS file. This means that every time new maintenance is applied on your z/OS, those symbolic links are lost and some applications can no longer run. Inevitably you oversee the problem until it becomes apparent after somebody's call complaining about the outage and then you must quickly try to understand what is actually missing before you can get everything up and running again.

This script, if executed after each IPL, ensures that symbolic links or directories with such characteristics are always where they should be even after maintenance is applied and a new HFS root file is in place.

All you need to do is define your directories and symbolic links in two files according to the certain rules and then make sure that the script is called after every IPL by adding it to your /etc/rc file.
